News from the Basel Pipefest 2009
Greetings form Basel Tattoo Producer Eric Julliard
Dear Pipe Major
Pipefest Basel takes place on 18 July 2009 and it promises to be a spectacular event. The festival starts with a Parade through the streets of the Basel inner city and the bands from the Pipefest will join the bands from the Basel Tattoo, an event that takes place each summer. Last year the Tattoo Parade was cheered by 100 000 spectators and in 2009, with the attraction of a combined Tattoo and Pipefest Parade, this number is expected to increase to 150 000.
The Parade will be followed by a Tribute to the Chieftain with Massed Pipes and Drums and Harmony Bands, after which you have the opportunity to watch the Basel Tattoo – a show that has been based on the legendary Edinburgh Military Tattoo and which has become the world’s second largest open air Tattoo after just 3 years. The show starts at 17:00 and as a participant in the Pipefest, you and your family are entitled to discounted tickets. Visit www.baseltattoo.ch for more information. A flyer for the event is attached to this e-mail.
From 20:00 the Pipefest post-parade party will run until the early hours of the morning.
As the producer of the Basel Tattoo, I would like to encourage you to participate in Pipefest Basel 2009. It would be an honour to host you in our beautiful city and I am confident that you will have a fantastic and memorable experience.
Should you wish to register, please do so at www.pipefest.com or if you would like more information, please go to www.pipefest.ch
I look forward to welcoming you to Basel.
Kind regards
Erik Julliard
Producer

On 18 July the Pipes and Drums of Basel are organizing the traditional pipefest in their hometown Basel. What began 1995 with less than 3'000 pipers and drummers in Edinburgh has developed over the years into an outstanding event. In 2005 there were more than 10'000 participants. In summer 2009, Basel is expecting more than 100'000 visitors. |
I am especially pleased to have the honour to be the German representative of the patronage committee. Because of its geographical situation, bordering Switzerland and France, continually involved with transboundary issues, and many good contacts across the borders are therefore particularly important.
May the Pipefest 2009 become an event that will bring back many happy memory for everyone
Gudrun Heute-Bluhm (First Town Mayor, Town of Loerrach)
